Sweets are part of the good things in life. Everyone loves sweets, and us the local Gozitans are no less. Throughout many years, the production of sweets has evolved as well. So nowadays you will find a variety of different sweets. 

Some sweets have been produced for ages, forming part of the local traditional sweets. Other types of sweets have been added to the local menu in recent years. Following are the most famous local sweets that you must try while visiting.

The Imqaret are basically figs sandwiched in puff pastry. The uniqueness of this sweet is that it is deep fried and served fresh. 

A popular dessert that you can try from most cafeterias around the island of Gozo. The soft cake is covered with coconut flakes. 

Also known as the Lent Biscuit, as the name suggest you will only find it during the Lent Period. 

Qubbajt is a traditional sweet dating back to the Knights of Saint John. Also known as Maltese Nougat, you will find Qubbajt stands during the village feasts. 

Ghadam ta’ Novembru are sweets in the shape of a bone and filled with almond filling. Produced only during the month of November, these are associated with the month of the dead.

The festive sweet is found only during the Carnival period. Easy to make, you will find this dome like sweet from various locations. 

Qaghaq tal-Ghasel are a traditional local sweet. Thin pastry is filled with local honey and cooked. This is one of those local sweets you must try. 

Dates are a local fruit that have been cultivated on the island for centuries. It is not a surprise that it has been widely used to make sweets. 

Fig sweets are another traditional sweet which is very common on Gozo. This simple sweet is made by stuffing pastry by fig.

Helwa tat-Tork is a traditional sweet. The delicacy has originated during the rise of the Ottoman Empire hence the name. 

The delicious local ice cream has made a name for itself, and it is a popular sweet option. As Gozo is a warm country, ice cream is enjoyed all year round.
