Helwa tat-Tork

helwa tat-tork, maltese sweets

Helwa tat-Tork means the sweet of the Turkish. As the name suggest, it was introduced in the Maltese archipelago when the islands were under the influence of rulers from the Middle East.

The sweet is soft and fluffy, mainly made of a sesame paste, sugar, and water. Flavours like vanilla and nuts are added. It is common to be made in a shape of a huge cylindrical block. You can buy it from most groceries in small amounts by weight.

Although not one of my favorites, I do suggest you try this unique sweet.
