Wied
Il-Mielah

a window rock formation near the coast

Wied Il-Mielah is one of Gozo’s northern valleys. It is located in a remote area on the outskirts of Gharb village.

The winding road along the valley is almost a kilometer long. Being in the middle of an agricultural area, walking down the valley is very peaceful and tranquil. Only the whispers of flying birds break the silence.

At the mouth of the valley you will find an impressive rock arch. This is a natural rock formation. It originally started as a small crack in the rock, hundreds of years ago. Due to continuous weather erosion the crack crawled along the rock and expanded. Eventually a “window” was formed.

marine caves seen from top of a cliff

Eastward of the valley are some impressive caves. These formations are at sea level, part of which is submerged. You can view the series of caverns from the cliff edge.

Westward from Wied il-Mielah, you will find some wild terrain, mostly all rough with barely any sign of a trekking path at all. Being so exposed to the saltiness of sea, very few vegetation survives. Heading further West, you will find the Mushroom Rock.
