gozo beaches

In the heart of the blue Mediterranean Sea, one finds the little island of Gozo. Gozo is Malta’s sister island, the second biggest of the Maltese archipelago. The Maltese islands (both Malta and Gozo) form part of the Schengen zone.

Being part of Schengen makes it easier for you to travel to Gozo if you reside in a country which is part of the Schengen zone. This is because travelling with a valid identification card is enough, saving bureaucratic time, paperwork and fees to keep your passport valid. However, it is good to note that a travel insurance is still highly recommended in case an unlikely event happens.

On the other hand, if you do not have a residency card from a country which forms part of zone Schengen, you will need to have your passport with you, as well as a Schengen visa to travel to Gozo and Malta. In such case, a travel insurance is mandatory.

Keep a soft copy of all official documents on your smartphone and/or tablet, just in case you lose them. This way it would be easier to file a report at the police station, and to have your documents prepared/replaced, so as to board your return flight.

For the latest information and requirements to travel to Malta, you may visit the consulate website https://consularplus.gov.mt/travel-advice?lang=en as well as refer to the Maltese embassy of the country you are residing in.

It is good to know that the electric system in Malta is supplied by 240V and the sockets for plugs are 3 pins (which is the UK standard), so a travel adapter would be needed, as the standard European plug is NOT compatible.
