Ta' Gordan Lighthouse

Ta’ Gordan lighthouse is located in a remote location. Perched high up on a cliff edge, it is just outside of Ghasri village. From its elevation of 160 meters above sea level, you can enjoy splendid views of the northern Gozo coast and adjacent countryside.

The current lighthouse was built under the British rule. This was made because of an increase in maritime traffic. Initially, the lighthouse functioned on several oil lamps, silver plated brass reflectors, and a series of large lenses. Nowadays, it works autonomously with electrical power.

It is good to know that another lighthouse preceded the current one. It was built in the 1660s and financed by Knight Henry De Gourdam, hence today’s name Ta’ Gordan. However, after several years of service, it stopped functioning and abandoned. The site was brought back to life when the British built the new lighthouse and a couple of military barracks in the vicinity.

You can enjoy the narrow road up the hill. Once you arrive at the lighthouse, have a break and enjoy the scenery. For the lazy ones, you can drive most of the way up. A small car park is available just below the summit.
