Sunset from Gozo

A popular habit by local people and international visitors is to watch the sunset on Gozo. This is an amazing natural spectacle which attracts many people of all ages.

The consistency of almost daily good weather makes sunset watching very easy. It is popular during the summer rather than in winter because of the warmer temperatures.

Being an island, Gozo offers different locations from where to observe the sunset. However, the best spots are those places where you can see the sun fades into the sea. The ideal spots are:

Sanap cliffs offers a peaceful location. I suggest plan the late evening to walk along the cliff edge path. When it is time, settle down and watch the romantic sunset with your partner. Some people also take a packed dinner and a bottle of local wine.
Dwejra is the most famous location by the adolescents to view the romantic spectacle with their loved ones. I admit, I have seen the sunset at this location a hundred times. It does get crowded during the summer time.
Wied il-Mielah is a more isolated location. It is a good place if you want some privacy with your partner. You can watch the sunset near the Wied il-Mielah Window. Else, you can get past the window and walk towards the Mushroom Rock.

During my childhood, my parents and relatives have told me “the sunset story” a million times. It is said that during sunset, the sun ‘touches’ the sea. When this happens the sea start to boil. So, one must stay quiet so as to be able to hear the boiling. No matter how hard I tried, I never managed to hear the bubbling water…hahahah
