As the story goes, the route starts from Mgarr at the ferry terminal and ends in Ta’ Pinu church. People used to come from Malta to walk the route. This was done so as to have their needs,….or a greedy wish granted by the Virgin Mary. This was a common practice in the past.

By time the economy of Gozo grew and people stopped walking the entire route. Nowadays, you will notice the island’s residents heading to Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary by car on Wednesday evenings.

It is worth noting that this particular church is quite unique. The decoration is all done by skilled workmanship in crafting the local limestone. The popularity of the church goes beyond the shores of the island. Even Popes payed several visits to this particular church.

Opposite the church you will find T’Ghammar Hill, a rise with a winding path up the hill. Along the way there are gigantic marble statues depicting the stations of the cross. Make an effort to climb the hill and enjoy the views.
