Kexxun tal-Hobz

hobz ghawdex, gozo bread, kexxun

The kexxun tal-hobz is another type of local bread. The name kexxun mean drawer. The name came to be by the mold shape that the dough is placed in. As the dough bakes and raises, it fits tight in the rectangular mould.

The end result is a bread in the shape of a rectangle with a thin hard crust and white fluffy interior. This bread is frequently cut into slices which are perfect to make sandwiches with.

Being a slightly  heavy bread, it is also used with the evening dinners to dip in sauces or accompany a meat dish.
