Imqaret

imqaret - maltese sweets

The Imqaret are one of the traditional sweets found on the Maltese archipelago. The proper meaning of Imqaret is diamond, referring to its shape. However, nowadays you may find the sweet also in a square shape.

A filling mostly made of dates is folded inside a thin pastry. Cooking is simple. You just need to deep fry the pastry until golden. It is important to be served fresh, sometimes accompanied with ice cream.

These can be found at a local bakery or from a street vendor during a village feast
