Ftira tal-Hobz

ftira maltija, gozo, ftira biz-zejt

The local ftira is a delicious hard bread. This bread is made without yeast so it gets hard, keeps low, and is a bit heavy. Nonetheless it is something worth trying.

The same name “ftira” is used for the local traditional pizza, which is something completely different. The bread ftira is used for lunch filled with other food items.

Ftira is usually prepared by cutting the bread through the middle. There are two ways how to enjoy ftira the Gozitan way. You can either add eggs, bacon, and a generous amount of Mayo and Barbecue sauce. Else, the traditional way to prepare your ftira is by adding tomato, oil, tuna, and olives. I must confess that the latter version is much better and tastier. This is your go to option if you like to try something local.
