East Trekking Route

a rough walking path making part of an officialy trekking route on Gozo

The east trekking route takes you through a remote area of the island. Most of the path is along the coast. Splendid views awaits you like that of Comino island

Your first fix will be Ramla beach, the famous sandy beach of the island. With ruins of a fortification on the left and a villa from the Roman empire, walk along the beach and climb the hill to visit Tal-Mixta Cave. The cave is enormous. In the past it was armed with cannons, so as to attack pirate ships trying to invade the bay below.

Heading further along the coast, your next point of reference is San Blass, a small tranquil beach also known as the nudist beach by the locals.  Following are Wied ir-Rihan, San Filep beach and the fishermen port of Dahlet Qorrot. These rocky beaches are small and not very accessible. So, it is a good location to rest.

Further on is a remote area. Barren rock and wild plants dominate this part of the island. Quarries are in the area so be careful. Reaching Saint Anthony’s Battery marks the North Eastern point of Gozo. From here, the path takes you south until you find the ferry terminal at the port.  Along the coast path, you can see Comino island and views of the Channel between Malta and Gozo.
