Dwejra Area

Dwejra Area is the most Westward part of Gozo. Many people visit this unique location in the the late evening to watch the sunset. This is the best spot to view the romantic sunset with your lover.

Being cut off from the village, Dwejra remained back in time. Also it has a unique geology with local wild plants. Today it makes part of Natura 2000. During the Roman times, a road from St. Laurence village to the shore was built, which still stands in good condition today.
What to see at Dwejra
Fungus Rock, found on the left-hand side of the bay, stands in solitude. The sides of the imposing rock where flattened in the past to prevent people from climbing onto the rock. This was because it was believed that a magical wild herb, which had healing powers, grew on this particular rock. A small bay is inland from the Fungus Rock with two boat houses still standing. This is a quiet location to swim and relax in.
The Blue Hole attracts thousands of tourist due to its formation and clear blue water. Many will jump to swim in the hole. Honestly, it is also a famous spot for diving. The Blue Hole offers an excellent diving experience. You will find a small cave at the back of the Blue Hole. Opposite, an archway leads you to the open sea where the sea gets deeper and deeper. You can also observe diverse marine life.
The inland sea is a natural formation that occurred thousands of years ago. Initially it was a cave like structure, but the roof collapsed. A crack in the cliff gave way to an opening due to the continuous crushing of waves against its sides. Nowadays, you will find a pond like lake, surrounded with boat houses. The pass in the cliff is wide enough for boats to pass through. You can take a boat tour from here to explore the outer sides of the cliff and caves.
Azure Window

The watch tower of Dwejra is one from a series of towers across Gozo. Built in the 1600s by the Order of St. John, it was part of the Coastal Fortification Project. Its duty was to safeguard the bay and alert the island’s militia when approached by an enemy ship.
