The Chapel of the Patronage of the Virgin Mary is found just outside the quiet village of Ghasri.

Exiting the village towards the north, along the passage to Wied il-Ghasri, you will encounter a stone cross over a pillar on the road side. A few meters down the road, the chapel will be on the right hand side.

Construction of the building was done in the 1730s. People from the nearby villages grew an affection toward this particular chapel. This lead to the enlargement of the church which happened just a few years after it was originally built. The countryside chapel was the first to be consecrated and remained the only one for over 160 years.

Despite being deprived of fancy decorations, it is the oldest basilica in Gozo.
