Chapel of the Immaculate Conception

This chapel is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. It is found on the East side of Gozo, on the periphery of the village of Qala. The building is located on the right hand side of the road leading to Hondoq Bay just before one starts the downhill road.

The structure was built in the 1570s, and is one of the earliest Marians Shrines. It was enlarged in the 1600s and served as the main parish church for a while.

The interior of the church was gold gilded and refurbished in the 1980s, with the main focus on the altar piece and the surroundings.

The chapel sits right next to a cemetery which overlooks the Gozo Chanel. On the opposite side of the street one finds a small public place with wooden benches. An imposing statue of the first Bishop of Gozo is also present.
