Planning for a trip should be fun, and everyone will browse about the nice spots to visit, and which beaches to sunbath at. However, accidents do happen and it is better to plan for the unexpected.

Gozo is served with a public health center in Victoria. The recently inaugurated health center is located right next to the bus terminus in the city of Gozo. It is well equipped to treat minor injures and treatments. Nurses and doctors are present along with other staff during the day.

The backbone of the health system in Gozo is the Gozo General Hospital. Located on a hill at the outskirts of Victoria, the hospital operates 24/7.

You should go directly to hospital in case:

Any kind of burns
Major traffic accident
In need of emergency treatment
Anything life threating
a sign of a health system

For any emergency you can call 112 for immediate assistance.

EHIC

The European Health Insurance Card is a policy for free or reduced emergency cost or medical treatment in public hospitals. It  is available to all EU citizens. The card is valid and operational in Malta and Gozo’s public hospital. I would highly recommend that anyone who can get an EHIC card, does so.

euro notes

As EHIC covers only basic treatment in state health centers in Gozo, it is advisable to get a private medical insurance. Different insurance companies offer different rates and coverage. Most of them are at reasonable prices and are surely worth the small extra cost so as to travel with a rested mind. Local insurance companies have great deals and I can recommend them from experience. Also, having the insurance company locally may help reduce the bureaucracy and paper work in case of need.

You also have the option to visit private health centers. As the public clinic may be crowded, private clinics are a good choice.

With reputable high standards and little wait time, private clinics are a good choice to consult with a medical practitioner, or a dentist.
