Qala

qala village on gozo

The quaint village of Qala is the Easternmost village of the island. The name means port, which probably refers to Ħondoq, which used to be the main port between Comino and Gozo.

Centre

In the center of Qala, one can find all the basic amenities, including supermarket and pharmacy, as well as bars and restaurants. In the pjazza, one can also find the parish church, which is dedicated to the patron saint of St Joseph.

Ħondoq ir-Rummien

Ħondoq ir-Rummien is a very popular beach in Gozo, for which one needs to go through Qala to get to. This is mainly a rocky beach, with the exception of some sand on the bay. Since it is an open bay, the water temperature is always cooler than it is in other bays.

On the way to the beautiful beach, you can find a chapel known as Il-Kappella tal-Madonna tal-Blat. From the little pjazza in front of this church, you can admire the amazing view of Comino and Cominotto. It is said that it was built so that the people of this neighboring island could follow Holy Mass from across the sea when the weather was too rough for a priest to cross to them.

Outskirts of Qala

On the outskirts of this quaint village, you can find the Belle Veder, with various seating places where you can enjoy the tranquil view and perhaps enjoy some food or snacks.
