Maltese Sausage, Zalzett

The Maltese sausage is a traditional food item that you must try while visiting Gozo. This sausage has nothing to do with the regular other sausages. 

Also known as Zalzett, the Maltese sausage is done with pork meat, coriander, and a handful of sea salt. It is quite heavy and not usually eaten for breakfast. The zalzett can be pan fried or grilled. Frequently used as a food item in the local ftira tal-hobz. Also, occasionally it is mixed with other meats like chicken or quail. 

During the summer months, Maltese sausage is a must whenever you are doing a BBQ with friends. Grilling the zalzett over charcoal gives it an even better taste.
