Weather in Gozo

The Maltese islands have a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers, warm and occasionally wet autumns, and short cold winters. Humidity is quite high which makes temperatures feel quite cooler or warmer than they are. This means that in summer, temperatures feel warmer while in winter they feel cooler than they are.

You need to plan carefully when packing for a Gozo holiday. It is not worth carrying much heavy clothing. Also, travelling light will save you on the flight fares.

When a rainy day is forecasted, usually it is just occasional showers, ….if it rains at all. Large thunderstorms are quite rare. During the winter season there is always a slight cool breeze. However, occasionally wind at gale forces do occur

Having an excellent climate almost all year round. The island of Gozo is ideal for citrus trees like lemons and oranges.  Olive trees are abundant, which produce yearly prime quality olive oil. A variety of vegetables grow without much effort, which help to create a distinctive palate to the local dishes.

What shall I pack?

Packing for the winter season

  • Light jacket
  • Wind & rain jacket (usually rain doesn’t last long, and is not heavy which means that it would not affect your plans much)
  • Scarf
  • Beanie (especially if you have short or no hair)
  • Light gloves if any.
  • Thick socks
  • Warm clothes

An umbrella is not suggested for when it rains, as usually rain is accompanied with wind, which means that an umbrella will not hold.

Packing for the Summer season

  • Sunblock
  • Body lotion (to apply in the evening to prevent skin dehydration)
  • Cap
  • Light clothes – ideally cotton
  • Sandals
  • Running/trekking shoes (if you plan to walk)
