Wied
il-Ghasri

a valley leading to outer sea

Wied il-Ghasri is found to the North of Gozo. It can be reached following the coastal road between Marsalforn and Ghasri village. If you’re travelling by car, you have to park on the road as parking near the valley is very limited.

Once you arrive over the valley you will notice a serpent like gorge. The shape of this particular valley was done by the erosion of flowing water. On rainy days, tons of water flows through it and push more boulders and sediment into the dale.

The water inside the valley is shallow and crystal clear. Descending into the valley can be done through the rock hewed steps at the side. Be careful as sometimes the rock is slippery. You will be welcomed by a small pebble beach, where the cold water is refreshing.

This is a good location to snorkel and spot some marine life. If you are into scuba diving, descending along the bottom slope outside of the valley is a spectacle. Also, you might spot some medium size fish. Eastward of the valley you will find Cathedral cave which is best explored in the late afternoon as the sun will shine through a crevice in the rock and light up the cave.
