Reqqa Point

a point head land leading to sea

Reqqa Point is the most northern part of Gozo. This small pointed headland extends northbound and the bedrock keeps on going under the the sea level.

Located just below the village of Zebbug, it is easy accessible from the adjacent coastal road connecting Ghasri village with Marsalforn. Although the location may seem a bit remote, it is just a few minutes away from the famous Salt Pans in Xwejni. However, at Reqqa Point you will find further salt pans which are still in continuous use nowadays.

a marine cave almost entirely submerged

Next to Reqqa Point is Shrimp Cave, a medium size, half submerged cave. This location is excellent for diving and offers a variety of ecological features like chimneys, expansive boulders, and more. The marine life is abundant. Exploring the cave is easy. The best way is to do it by diving. However, snorkeling the cave can also be done by entering the water from the ladder at the mouth of the cave.

As the cave is directly exposed to the North West, it is sometimes subject to heavy waves. During such weather conditions I advise you not to enter the sea, as this can be dangerous and you may get seriously hurt. Instead I suggest you to keep your distance from the cave and admire the waves crushing inwards. As the cave has an enclosed bottom, the air inside the cave gets compressed and ejects the incoming waves high up in the sky like a geyzer would.
